Professional Hydroseeding in Sacramento County

Fast, uniform vegetation growth to stabilize your soil and stop erosion in its tracks.

When you need bare dirt covered quickly, affordably, and evenly, hydroseeding is the industry standard. NorCal Erosion Control provides professional hydroseeding services across Sacramento County and Northern California. Using our specialized equipment, we spray a precision-blended slurry of seed, wood or paper mulch, fertilizer, and soil tackifier directly onto your land. The result? Rapid germination, deep root establishment, and immediate surface protection against wind and rain.

Why Choose Hydroseeding Over Sod or Hand Seeding

Unmatched Cost-Effectiveness

Hydroseeding is typically a fraction of the cost of laying traditional sod, making it the only viable option for large residential lots, commercial tracts, and expansive slopes. You get lush, green results without the premium price tag.

Faster, Healthier Germination

Because the seed is suspended in a nutrient-rich, moisture-locking mulch slurry, it germinates significantly faster than dry broadcast seeding. The mulch acts like a greenhouse, holding moisture directly against the seed and protecting it from harsh Sacramento Valley sun and hungry birds.

Superior Slope Stabilization

Hand seeding on a steep hill is practically guaranteed to wash away during the first rainstorm. Our hydroseeding slurry includes a heavy-duty tackifier (bonding agent) that glues the seed and mulch directly to the slope face, securing the soil while the roots take hold.

Custom Seed Blends for Your Land

Sod limits your choices to whatever grass varieties the farm is growing. With hydroseeding, we customize the seed palette specifically for your soil type, sun exposure, and water availability including drought-tolerant native grasses and pollinator-friendly wildflowers.

Ideal Applications for Hydroseeding

Residential Lawns & Estates

Establish a beautiful, drought-tolerant yard around new custom home builds or over large acreage where sod is cost-prohibitive.

Steep Slopes & Hillsides

Lock down vulnerable dirt on severe grades to prevent sediment runoff and mudslides during winter rain events.

Post-Wildfire & Burn Scar Revegetation

Quickly reintroduce native plant life to scorched earth, restoring the ecological balance and preventing catastrophic post-fire erosion.

Commercial Grading & SWPPP Compliance

Secure exposed dirt on active construction sites to meet Regional Water Quality Control Board requirements and pass your stormwater inspections.

Our Sacramento Valley Hydroseeding Process

01

Site Assessment & Seed Selection

We start by evaluating your property's soil profile, slope grade, and irrigation capabilities. Based on your goals whether it's a pristine green lawn or rugged slope stabilization we select the perfect seed blend and fertilizer mix.

02

Soil Preparation & Grading Verification

For optimal root establishment, the soil must be properly prepped. We verify that the site has been graded, cleared of major debris, and lightly scarified so the seed slurry can make direct contact with the earth.

03

Precision Slurry Application

Using our commercial-grade hydroseeders, our technicians spray an even, consistent layer of the slurry over the target area. The green dye in the mix ensures 100% coverage with no missed patches or overlaps.

04

Post-Application Watering Schedule

Hydroseeding's success relies on moisture. We leave you with a clear, simple watering schedule tailored to the current season to ensure maximum germination rates over the first 30 days.

Northern California Native Seed Mixes

NorCal Erosion Control specializes in hydroseeding with native and drought-tolerant species that thrive in our Mediterranean climate. By utilizing the Sacramento Valley native seed palette, we help property owners reduce long-term irrigation costs, lower maintenance requirements, and support local biodiversity.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hydroseeding

For the best results, hydroseeding requires direct seed-to-soil contact. While the slurry can technically be sprayed over dead grass, the roots will struggle to establish themselves. We highly recommend removing old sod or dead vegetation and lightly scarifying the soil before we apply the hydroseed mixture.
The ideal time to hydroseed in the Sacramento Valley is late fall or early spring, right before or after the peak rainy season. Temperatures between 55–85°F provide the optimal environment for rapid germination without the intense heat of a Northern California summer drying out the seedbed. However, with proper irrigation, we can hydroseed year-round.
Moisture is critical. For the first 2 to 3 weeks, the hydroseeded area must be kept consistently moist but not flooded, usually requiring light watering 2 to 3 times a day depending on the weather. Once the grass reaches about two inches tall, you can begin transitioning to a deeper, less frequent watering schedule.
The green tint in our slurry is a non-toxic, environmentally safe dye used as a visual marker so our technicians ensure 100% coverage. If overspray gets on concrete, siding, or fencing, it will fade naturally in the sun within a few days or can be washed off easily with a garden hose.
Please keep all foot traffic (including pets and children) off the hydroseeded area for at least 4 to 6 weeks. You can perform your first mow when the grass reaches about 3 to 4 inches tall. Make sure your mower blades are sharp, and never cut off more than one-third of the grass blade height at a time.
